ANIMAL FARM ||CLASSICS CHALLENGE ~BOOK REVIEW (2).

A book review is a statement where a blogger/writer/reviewer provides his/her opinion. Animal farm, a book by George Orwell dwells in the hearts of thousands and millions of people. Why is it loved by people so much?? Why is it so popular and one of the most famous classics?? Let me do the honours of answering your questions.

Hello everyone. Welcome to my blog: Magical BookLush.

Before I start reviewing this book, I would like to inform the new readers and remind my old readers that this book is a part of my CLASSICS READING CHALLENGE. I have already reviewed 1 book that you can find on my site.

So let’s start, shall we?

Written by George Orwell.

Summary:

What happens when ill-treated farm animals gang up to throw out their lazy, corrupt and power-drunk rulers??

Animal farm is born.

As humans get ousted from Manor Farm and animals take control, their utopian fantasy of running a farm on the basis of equality soon begins to crumble before their eyes. The rebellion of the animals, led by two pigs, Napoleon and Snowball, gives way to corrupt practices that lead to unthinkable consequences.

Reviews on Novel:

A wise, compassionate, and illuminating fable for our times.
-The New York Times.

Orwell’s satire is amply broad, cleverly conceived, and delightfully written
-San Francisco Chronicle.

Absolute first-rate…
Comparable to Voltaire and Swift.
-The New Yorker.

My summary:

Tired and fed up of the ill-treatment, animals rebel against their owners and chase them away. With the pigs as their leader, the animals take charge of the farm and start working with some ground rules.

The rules that every animal has to follow.

As time passes by, their dream of freedom and democracy is crushed by their own kind and they are forced into thinking whether they did something wrong by rebelling against their owners.

Quote in animal farm.

But now it is too late. The commandments are changed, their memories have faded and been altered with, the pigs start taking advantages of their dumbness or innocence (if you want to put it that way) and the outcomes bring them back to where they had started before but this time, it’s not people ruling. It’s the pigs.

Animal farm’s true definition.

Novel Description:

Author: George Orwell.

These really are some intriguing reasons.

Pages: 143.

Duration: 1 hr and 44 mins.

My Review:

My opinion.

The book is seriously a must-read. It is a really interesting and unique novel. The starting of the novel is a bit slow and the introduction of the characters is not properly and thoroughly done as there are many of them. If you read the novel with an interval like I had to do, you will forget some characters. I felt the start was a little slow.

It uniquely and wonderfully describes the blindness that acquiring power causes. It also has a really good flow, slow, but good. It defines a Russian era that many of us are unaware of.

Final opinion: MUST TRY.

This novel should be tried at least once. It deserves a good hour of book club discussion. The link to buy this novel is given both above and here.

  1. A lovely review, Susan. I recently finished reading 1984 by George Orwell. I have Animal Farm on my TBR too.

    1. That’s super great. Animal farm is worth reading, it’s a very good novel and you won’t believe it if I say this but I am reading 1984 right now. I am on part II chapter IX. When you finish reading animal farm, do tell me your favourite part so that we can discuss it and thank you so much for following me.

      Lovelove, Suzan.

  2. I read this at school, in 1966. If you read one of Orwell’s other books, ‘Homage To Catalonia’, you may well realise why he was disillusioned with the Left-Wing struggle. He was a complex individual, and that comes across in his various novels.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. I haven’t read that yet. I am reading 1984 right now. I loved his animal farm and 1984 is mindblowing for now. Haven’t finished yet. Now that you recommend it. I will surely try it. Thank you for your recommendation.

      1. It is a factual account of the time he spent as a volunteer soldier in the Spanish Civil War. A very interesting personal memoir, and a look at the politics of Europe during the 1930s. πŸ™‚

        1. Wow, it looks really interesting. I don’t know much about him but I love his novels. He is so good. I can’t put down 1984. I will surely try it. Putting it down in my recommended novels list. Thank you, Pete. Btw how was my reviewing style? Did you like it?? Do I need to make any changes? If you are free, please answer.

          1. I like your use of quotes and other reviews in your post, as well as using a photo of the author.
There is an acceptance now that Orwell was writing about Stalinist Russia in this book, as you allude to with this line.
‘It defines a Russian era that many of us are unaware of’. But the sentiments expressed in the story can actually refer to any totalitarian regime, and would apply to Nazi Germany equally. I might have made that general point, and not limited it to Soviet history.
You blog is bright, and good to look at. The large font and use of images makes it pleasing to read too. If I were you, I wouldn’t change that style.
            Best wishes, Pete.

            1. Thank you so much. Yes, I thought so. I thought that he could refer to any era and regime but during my research about him on google. I found out that he hated the Russian era and was angry at them. So he wrote this story. It was banned because it said the bitter truth of that time. But the truth can’t stay hidden. The book got challenged again and again and that’s what made it one of the greatest books in history. I am glad you liked my blog. I hope you enjoy much more and if you find anything offensive or bad, or you don’t like my blog style do tell me. Your opinion does matter. I am always open for feedback.

  3. Wonderful review Suzan. It’s been more years since I read Animal Farm, than I care to share, but I remember it prompting quite the discussion in my high school literature class.
